Amazon.com Launches Auto Parts Store

In an article today on BusinessWeek.com, it was announced that Amazon.com has launched an automotive parts and accessories store section of their web site. Here is a quote from the article.

We're providing a broad selection of products for auto enthusiasts, who are passionate about the appearance and performance of their cars, but also making the Automotive Store convenient for the everyday motorist who is looking for basic car care and maintenance items, said Steve Frazier, vice president of the automotive unit at Amazon.com.

If you're young enough to have lived through this country's War on Drugs while attending grade school, you no doubt remember annual visits from your local police department to intimidate/convince you not to do drugs. In order not to frighten children by showing up in a Crown Vic with a dash-mounted shotgun, most officers arrived in a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) car, usually a vehicle acquired through a drug bust or paid for with confiscated drug money, or so they told my class. A lot of D.A.R.E. vehicles were late model pony cars like the Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang, presumably because drug dealers were way into Detroit iron and the flashier the car, the easier it was to keep the attention of kids hopped up on sugar and caffeine.

I just had a revelation while reading this. Is it really the best message to send to kids. Don't do drugs kids! Especially, don't sell drugs, because drug dealers drive cool cars like this one... Um, wait a minute...

Sometimes progress is a dirty word.

News about about electric and other "green" cars is everywhere these days, but what about motorcycles? Gizmag reports that a new type of electric dirt bikes is on the way, as evidenced by the Electricross.

One of the best things about this bike, in our opinion, is the noise--or lack thereof. Motocross fans everywhere may someday be able to leave their earplugs at home.
