If you're young enough to have lived through this country's War on Drugs while attending grade school, you no doubt remember annual visits from your local police department to intimidate/convince you not to do drugs. In order not to frighten children by showing up in a Crown Vic with a dash-mounted shotgun, most officers arrived in a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) car, usually a vehicle acquired through a drug bust or paid for with confiscated drug money, or so they told my class. A lot of D.A.R.E. vehicles were late model pony cars like the Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang, presumably because drug dealers were way into Detroit iron and the flashier the car, the easier it was to keep the attention of kids hopped up on sugar and caffeine.

I just had a revelation while reading this. Is it really the best message to send to kids. Don't do drugs kids! Especially, don't sell drugs, because drug dealers drive cool cars like this one... Um, wait a minute...

New car owners say foreign models have 'it' while Detroit's latest are mostly bland. A J.D. Power survey of 63,000 Americans who recently bought vehicles gave the highest rating for appeal to foreign cars in 17 of the 19 categories.

Only the Ford Mustang and Ford Fusion topped their categories, while 12 Japanese models took the pole position.

Maybe next year, GM and DaimlerChrysler.

In my opinion, the respondents to this survey are a bunch of unpatriotic jerks, choosing foreign cars over domestics. That doesn't change the fact that they are right. Sucks.

New Host - Technical Update

The Mudhorny.com site is moving to a hosting environment outside of Blogger's Blogspot servers. The resolved address - mudhorny.blogspot.com - is going to be redirected back to the domain, and the pages and XML feed will be reposted to a new folder.

How to Avoid Buying Flooded cars [Source: Google Video]

This year, thousands of cars that were flooded by the recent hurricanes may find themselves in the garages of unknowing car buyers. This can happen when unscrupulous people fraudulently "retitle" a car so it hides the fact that it's been flooded. So how can you avoid falling for an elaborate fraud?

Experts say always have a trusted mechanic examine the car.

Look underneath the dashboard of the vehicle and check the wiring. Feel if it's wet and look for signs of rotting around the wiring. Also, look along the carpeting of the vehicle for discoloration. A single line or flat line could be an indication of a watermark in the vehicle.

Be sure to check the trunk for water damage and shoddy repairs. Turn the lights on to make sure that they work. One of the biggest indicators can also be the smell of the car. If the interior smells musty or too much like a strong deodorizer you should be suspicious that car has been wet or damaged.

Take advantage of services such as carfax.com which can trace the car's history and can alert you of any problems with its past.

Last month, we mentioned VehicleFX.com, a seller of truck accessories. Today, we wanted to highlight DropHitch.com, a division of VehicleFX.com, bringing you an expanded supply of trailer hitches for your vehicle.

The first item to select is a trailer hitch to fit your vehicle and your towing needs. Trailer hitches come in class 1, 2, 2.5, 3, 4 and class 5 ratings. Not all classes are available for all vehicles but the higher the rating the more you can tow. Just remember not to exceed your vehicles capabilities. The idea here is that Nissan is generating buzz behind this SUV among the off-roaders and extreme enthusiasts. Their looking for owners and fans to submit pictures. What I find interesting is that they aren't just sending the user to the main Nissan site and then having them click from there, but created a whole new site and domain name specifically for this campaign. It's an interesting idea and it looks like it will pay off.
